Case Studies Project
1.
About My Goal
To craft a memorable identity for an independent film production studio, the branding should creatively and concisely reflect the studio's unique attitude and vision.
2.
Client & Research
Founded in 2013 by Molly Smith, Trent Luckinbill, and Thad Luckinbill, Black Label Media was created to finance and produce bold, commercially appealing films.
Committed to producing a wide range of films, Black Label Media understands the importance of appealing to a diverse audience. They seek film titles that can effortlessly transcend genres, reflecting this versatility.

3.
Ideations & Ref
I have referenced many logo idents from relevant companies, and they tend not to make the animations overly complex. I believe that for these filmmakers, the most important thing is ensuring that the audience remembers their name. Both of my design approaches are based on this principle.
Idea1:“Highlight”

As a fledgling film label, it's important that audiences remember our name. The main plan of the first idea is to highlight his name and guide the audience to follow the black label through the strong light.

Idea2:“Emerges”

The gradual emergence of type from other materials can also make the audience focus on the type itself. The font gradually emerges with 3D texture. The movement of the camera from near to far will also guide the audience's attention.
4.
Design
As mentioned earlier, I needed to create a logo IDENT that would work in a variety of contexts. My design is to adapt it to various environments through materials and effects. Here are some effects of this logo IDENT in different types of movie opening titles.

5.
Motion Test
In communication with my creative director, I realized that I needed to render a section for my client to show the specific liquid effect. I chose the most important dividing lines in the animation as the core of the test.

6.
Animations
In the first animation, I noticed the title needed better centering and smoother transitions. I improved both in the second animation and also refined the logo's appearance to reduce the exaggerated perspective effect. In the third animation, I switched to multiple camera angles, enhancing detail clarity while maintaining scene continuity.

7.
Technical Development
In this project, I mainly used C4D software and its attached X Partical plug-in. I used particles to create the main water flow effects and finally covered them with VBD Mesher to make them look like water materials.

Add collider and adjust parameters
Particles now recognize and move around fonts and ground surfaces

Add VBD Mesher
The particles will now connect into blocks.

Final Render
After consulting with my art director, we decided to use Black Label Media's official color palette for the final render to showcase the effects.
